Home Repairs

The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative offers four different programs; A Brush with Kindness (ABWK), Critical Home Repairs (CHR), Critical Home Repairs for Veterans and Weatherization.

Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) and Critical Home Repairs (CHR) programs provide home repair services to homeowners who could otherwise not afford to have them done. The program selects family partners who have 1) shown they have a need for Habitat for Humanity’s services; 2) have met the income criteria established for the program (the household earns less than 60% of the area median income), and 3) have shown a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity. Partnering includes agreeing to the Neighborhood Covenant (Section 9) and agreeing to partner through the Fund for Humanity.

The Critical Home Repair Program for Veterans is a program that provides extensive interior or exterior home repairs that alleviate critical health, life and safety issues or housing code violations. Veterans are selected if they earn less than 80% of the metropolitan area median income, live in the home as their primary residence and were honorably discharged. The veteran may have served during times of peace or war.

Our Weatherization program provides protection of a home and its interior from the elements, particularly from sunlight, precipitation, and wind, and provides building modifications that reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency. Families are selected if they earn less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, they meet family selection criteria and the home was not already weatherized after 9/30/1994.

The cost of repairs made through any of Habitat’s repair programs is repaid by the applicant. The payment to Habitat for Humanity of Prince William County, Manassas & Manassas Park is placed in a Fund for Humanity that helps other families in need. We offer a zero percent interest (0%) loan that may be repaid in monthly installments over a period of five to seven years with a provision that the note is paid in full upon sale or transfer of the property. For those families who qualify, an additional Payment Assistance Program is available.

Habitat for Humanity of Prince William County, Manassas & Manassas Park supports the letter and spirit of the U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation.  We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, gender, familial status, national origin, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, sexual orientation, or status with regard to public assistance.
