Volunteer Update 07/29/2008
A Brush With Kindness At The Baig Home
Work was started on the Baig home in Woodbridge last Friday and Saturday. Randy Haynes from Westover Baptist Church and members of his youth group demolished the fence and cleaned up the yard on Friday. Mission accomplished by: Daniel Strickland, Brianna Strickland, Brandon Page, Eric Page, Bryan Childress, Kaitlyn Childress, Steve Shevlin, Laura Shevlin, Shannon Shevlin, Tyler Davis and Dakota Strickland.
On Saturday, Bill Okuly, Sara Bohn, Cameron Carney, Martinique Shepherd, Steve Fedos and Dave Dallas put up the new fence. Later in the day, Sara Bohn helped Dan install a dishwasher and refrigerator that were donated through the Habitat ReStore. You can go to our website to see the before and after pictures of the fence and back yard project. Mr. Baig cooked a delicious lunch for the volunteers. The Baig home is sponsored by the Bull Run Rotary Club.
Dan Purvis, Construction Manager says: "We will be at the Baig residence this Friday August 1, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm to install four new windows. This is a great opportunity to see how the replacement windows can easily be installed in your own home. We will review proper removal and disposal of the old worn out windows, installation of new energy efficient windows, proper interior/ exterior trimming, caulking and finishing techniques that insure a weather tight window unit. See you there!"
To sign up to volunteer this Friday, e-mail volunteer@habitatpwc.org . A volunteer photographer is coming out on Friday to work and take pictures. Please join us so we will have good photo ops with our volunteers. We would greatly appreciate someone providing lunch for that day also. Since it is so hot, sandwiches and chips would be all that is needed. If you are willing to provide lunch on Friday or any other work day please send an email to Joanne at jjones@habitatpwc.org .
Have you heard?
Faith-based bands, Third Day, Switchfoot, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and Jars of Clay are appearing at Nissan Pavilion on Sunday, September 14, 2008, as part of a 24-city tour that benefits Habitat for Humanity. A dollar from every ticket sold at the Nissan Pavilion venue will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. The church or youth group from our community that refers the most ticket buyers will win a meet and greet with the bands for up to 30 people!
Help us spread the word! Get more information and download a flyer from our website. You may also call 703-369-6708 or e-mail Jessica Baker, our summer intern, if you'd like to get an 11 x 17 poster to hang at your workplace or church or to get more information. Buy your tickets or link to group sales through www.musicbuildstour.com (click on the Info button in the show listing for Washington, D.C.--Nissan Pavilion.)
Chad from Switchfoot: "We dreamed up The Music Builds Tour along with a few friends of ours whose main commonality is a dream to see this world change for the better. Different bands, different backgrounds, one goal: A traveling festival to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. We think very highly of the people who listen to our music. We are grateful for the open minded audience who have embraced our songs and allowed us to push the boundaries of where the music can go. We invite you to put differences in musical taste aside and focus on our commonalities: we all want to see this world change for the better. We hope that you'll come with us on this next part of the journey and get involved in something much bigger than ourselves."
Appliances - Featured Items Of The Week At The ReStore
The ReStore has just received another large donation of GE Electric Ranges. These units are priced to move! We have also just received a set of beige, GE Profile Appliances including dishwasher, gas cooktop, double wall oven, and an over-the-range Advantium microwave. See these and other "hot" deals that have come in this week! The store is open 9-5 Monday through Friday and 9-4 on Saturday. We're located at 9506 Center Street in Manassas. And, as always, we can use more ReStore volunteers, 16 years of age and up, to help us move merchandise from the receiving area to the sales floor; help customers with their purchases; process donations; cashiering, and more. To volunteer, call 703-369-6708 or e-mail volunteer@habitatpwc.org . For further information about the ReStore call Sam at 703-369-6145 or e-mail sdruetzler@habitatpwc.org .
