Habitat for Humanity and George Mason's Department of Social Work Present
A Hoarding Workshop
Saturday, September 25th at GMU Prince William Campus
9 am—12 pm
Occoquan Bldg room 230
Send RSVP’s to [ email ]. RSVP’s are required by September 21st.

What is hoarding? How did these items take control of our lives? How can I help?
Habitat for Humanity and GMU Department of Social Work offer an
educational session for those trying to understand the concept of hoarding. The workshop, led by Catherine J. Tompkins, PhD.,
is designed to:
• Understand the concept of hoarding
• Identify ways to support someone who may have a hoarding disorder
• And develop strategies to help reduce clutter effectively
Additional topics:
Hoarding Behaviors, Thoughts and feelings associated with hoarding, Causes of hoarding, and Hoarder vs. Clutterer

Many of the cleanups we do in partnership with the City and County Neighborhood Services Divisions are in response to citations that have been issued against community residents who have a hoarding disorder.
Accumulated debris in yards causes friction between neighbors, diminishes property values and is a safety hazard. But what some people see as debris are the belongings of the person who is collecting them. Care needs to be taken when we respond to provide a cleanup. This workshop will shed some light on what to expect when you’re working a cleanup site.
